A poem about escape.
Take me on an adventure!
Take me far away from here.
I want to see the city
I want to see the lights
I want to stand on top of a skyscraper and watch the sun rise
Take me to the desert
Take me to the mountains
I want to see the cacti
I want to see the orange skies
I want to swim in the river with the sun in my eyes
And the warm breeze on my back
Take me to the forest
Take me up in the trees
I want to see the wildlife
I want to see what they see
I want to sit on the ground in the humid weather under the green canopy
Take me to the ocean
Take me to the sea
I want to taste the salty breeze
I want to touch the thick seaweed
I want to sit on the shore as the gentle waves crash up to my feet
Take me around the world
Let us learn a different language or two
Or a few!
Let’s eat Ethiopian food
Let us sit on top of a roof at night and stare up at the galaxy that we call home
Let us thank the stars for giving us hope and thanks the moon for giving us light
Thank the darkness for giving us night
Run through grass fields barefoot and feel the cool soil between our toes
We’ll lie on the beach at dusk and the sand will massage our backs
Take me up the highest mountain and watch the sun set from way up high
I want to feel. Take me away so I can
Feel
Take me on an adventure
Take me far away from here.
