Where Did I Get My Name?

You may know me as a few different names because of my trouble feeling connected to anything I went by. I have found that I am comfortable with S. Sapphyre Maree and all the variations of it (Saph, S., Maree, Sapphyre Maree, S.S.M.). My brain no longer connects with the name my family or high school friends call me and when I hear it I don't listen. Now you may be wondering where I got my new name!

Let's start with my first initial. S. It's a secret LOL. Moving on!

Sapphyre. Sapphires are my birthstone and my favorite gem. It's a name that I feel describes me best and where I came from (wherever the hell that is). My parents gave me a name that was never going to stick. I spent years trying to figure out why I felt incredible discomfort at the sound of it. Well it's not mine. It's on all my legal documents but it's not me. I changed the "I" in sapphire to a "y" to be fancy and stand out. I finally feel comfortable with myself.

Maree is actually my middle name. I'm not sure why it resonates with me and my first name doesn't but I love it. I am planning on legally changing my name with Maree as a last name. Mx. Maree. Maree, a variation of Marie, means star of the sea, rebellion, bitter, and ocean tides. I think it suits me well.

Basically, I hate the name my parents gave me. It causes me extreme discomfort but lately I've been able to zone it out. I've found a name that I feel comfortable with and that I can introduce myself as. Don't ask about the S. And no, it does not stand for secret ;)
